On August 8, the ± 800kV UHV flexible DC converter valves developed by TBEA Sunoasis for the Wudongde Hydropower Station transmitting to Guangdong and Guangxi UHV Multiple Terminal DC Demonstration Project successfully shipped away from TBEA Sunoasis Xi’an Industrial Park where the first batch of 20 sets of the valve sections were to be delivered at Wudongde Project Liubei Converter Substation for site installation.
Upon completion, Wudongde Hydropower Project will be the world’s first UHV multiple terminal mixed DC project, the first UHV flexible DC convertor station and also the UHV multiple terminal DC power transmission project with the largest capacity in the world. The project, upon completion, will be a milestone for structural adjustment of energy, energy-saving and exhaust reduction, construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, coordinated development of regional economy and improvement of China’s technical level in power equipment.
TBEA Sunoasis has been dedicating to the research of key technology of flexible DC power transmission and the R&D of converter valve for core equipment and is the world’s first company to propose non-locking overhead flexible DC power transmission series technology. In June 2017, TBEA Sunoasis worked with China Southern Power Grid to jointly develop the world’s first UHV flexible DC power transmission converter valve, which improves the level of flexible DC power transmission from ±350kV to ±800kV and the level of transmission capacity from maximum 1,000MW to 5,000 MW, filling gaps in the industry of UHV flexible DC power transmission in the application of overhead lines. In 2018, TBEA Sunoasis successfully won the bid of China Southern Power Grid Wudongde Hydropower Station Transmitting to Guangdong and Guangxi UHV Multiple Terminal DC Demonstration Project and realized the industrialization of its product.
TBEA Sunoasis undertook the task of equipment development and production for Wudongde Liubeiji 1 Converter Substation, with the total equipment capacity of 3GW, involving 24 valve towers of 2 valve halls. Transportation of the equipment for Wudongde Liubeiji 1 Converter Substation will go through five provinces of Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Guangxi, covering over 1,500 kilometers and the entire project will send out more than 120 vehicles. To ensure safety during transportation, transportation detecting meters such as the crash recorder will monitor the entire process in real time and transportation status will be examined using big data technology so as to effectively realize full-process control from loading, shipment to unloading upon arrival.
